Blue badge scheme (Scotland)

On-street parking concessions for disabled people

Whether you are a passenger or driver a blue badge allows you to park as close to your destination as possible.

This concession applies in the UK and across Europe for disabled people who experience the greatest barriers to their mobility.

How to apply

  • Apply online using the link below - this is the easiest method as it will allow you to make the necessary payment by credit or debit card.

Apply for a blue badge

Payment is only taken once the application has been successful and the new badge has been sent to the printers. You will also be able to track the progress of your application.

Please note, regardless of how you apply, you will still be have to take any other evidence required to any of the council's first stop shops for checking or have the documents copied, certified and posted in to us.

Successful applications processed will be charged a £20 administration fee. This charge will also be applied when a badge is lost or stolen and a replacement is required.

Every effort is made to process applications within six weeks. Please note, applications taken to any First Stop Shop can take an additional 10 days beyond this timescale. However, there will be occasions where national legislation requires additional checks by an occupational therapist. In these cases the process could take significantly longer. Once you have submitted your form please do not contact our office for an update as we will not be able to provide this information.

All badges are ordered from a central organisation and once we place the order it can take up to 14 working days for the badge to be delivered to your home.

If you do not meet the criteria for a Blue Badge and you are unhappy with this decision, you can write to the Blue Badge Team, PO Box 19073, Motherwell ML1 9DP within 28 days to request a review of this decision.   The Review will be sent to  Occupational Therapy within Health & Social Care.  You will then be invited you to attend an Independent Mobility Assessment, the outcome of this assessment will be sent to the Blue Badge team for further consideration.

If you are unhappy with any other aspect of the customer service you have received you can make a complaint via the councils comments and complaints procedure.
