Congratulations to pupils on creative designs

Woodlands Primary pupil

From over 2,000 entries, artwork by a pupil from Woodlands Primary School in Cumbernauld has been chosen as the winner of our road safety competition.

Taylor Dempsey's design and slogan - Slow Down for a Safer Town - will be on our road safety calendar for 2019.

She received a trophy and salver from Councillor Michael McPake, Convener of the Infrastructure Committee, along with a framed certificate and gift card.

A judging panel of representatives from the council, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Road Safety Scotland considered over 2,000 designs from pupils at 89 primary schools across North Lanarkshire.

"Congratulations to Taylor on her winning design which will be promoting road safety in our schools throughout 2019," said Councillor McPake.

"We have been running the calendar competition for 54 years now and it is as popular as ever, with an incredible 2,000 entries. Well done and thank you to everyone who took part for their creative designs."

Our Safe and Sustainable Travel Team run the competition to encourage pupils to think about the importance of road safety. Copies of the calendar are distributed to all schools in North Lanarkshire and an e-calendar is also available to council services.
