North Lanarkshire Schools Pipe Band crowned Scottish Champions

North Lanarkshire Schools Pipe Band has continued their winning streak by adding Scottish Champions to their recent haul of major titles.

The band was triumphant in the Novice B grade Scottish Championships at Levengrove Park in Dumbarton on Saturday 28 July from a field of 12 with bands from as far as Brisbane and Kintyre competing. The winning band also came away with the Drumming prize.

This latest title adds to their Scottish Schools, British Championship and recent European Championships, making it the most successful season ever for the band.

Led by Pipe Major Darren Somerville, who used to play for the North Lanarkshire Schools Pipe Band as a pupil, the team is now ready for its final competition at the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow He said: "This is an immense achievement for the band, as the standard is particularly high, with bands coming from as far afield as Australia.

"We're now focusing on the World Pipe Band Championships at Glasgow Green on 18 August to bring our season to a close."
