Strategic Development Framework (SDF)

North Lanarkshire needs over 6,000 new homes, and we have responded to this demand by identifying a Community Growth Area at South Cumbernauld to create a large number of these.

We have developed a pdf icon Strategic Development Framework [8Mb] to guide development in the area.  It was approved by our Planning and Transportation Committee on 15 June 2016. The draft SDF was previously approved by the same Committee on 9 December 2015.

The SDF builds on the previous  pdf icon Concept Statement [915kb]  and provides the detailed information required to develop the area in the best way possible. Together these documents will represent formal guidance to developers and design professionals.

Together they will form the basis for assessing masterplans and planning applications and guide developers as they develop their masterplans for the area.

The consultation on this document was in two stages:

  • A initial six week period from 11 January until 19 February 2016.
  • A  from 29 March to 24 May 2016 to enable a tandem consultation on an associated pdf icon Environmental Report [1Mb] to be undertaken.

Comments

All comments from both consultations have been assessed before the final document is presented to Committee, these took the form of comments from pdf icon External Agencies [280kb], pdf icon Internal to the Council [269kb]and pdf icon members of the general public [51kb].

Where did the CGA come from?

The Glasgow and Clyde Valley Structure Plan identified South Cumbernauld as one of a number of a planned Community Growth Areas. These were designated to meet a significant proportion of demand for new housing development. The North Lanarkshire Local Plan then confirmed the boundaries of the area.
