Smoke alarm testing

Smoke alarm testing within your council house

North Lanarkshire Council installs smoke alarms to all council properties; however, they must be checked annually to make sure they are working correctly and replaced if necessary.

Working in partnership with our heating service provider, Saltire Facilities Management, we carry out an annual service check on residents' smoke alarms.

It can take as little as 15 minutes for the electrician to check that a valuable life saving piece of equipment is working or even replaced if it is found to be faulty. This simple test can provide peace of mind to you and your family and even your neighbours.

Unfortunately a number of residents fail to allow access to Saltire to carry out the smoke alarm test and are not taking advantage of the service provided by the council.

If you have gas heating it will be carried out at the same time as the annual gas safety check however if you have electric heating it is important that you allow access to have the smoke alarms tested too.

If you have been contacted to make an appointment to come and check your smoke alarm please ensure you allow access. If you haven't had your smoke alarm checked this year please call Saltire on 01698 743647.

Please use the 'contact us' box if you have any questions.
