Electrical system testing

Electrical safety in your council house

Electricity is very safe when used properly. Electrical safety inspections check the electrical system within a property to make sure it is working properly and safely.

As your landlord we are responsible for making sure that an electrical safety inspection is carried out on the electrical system within your home. This is carried out every five years (or earlier). The inspection will identify what, if anything, needs to be done to keep the electrical system in a safe working condition.

Electrical testing will only be carried out by a registered electrician.

We have produced a short video clip to show you what the electrical safety inspection involves.

  • You will receive a letter from us explaining that your property is due to have an Electrical System Test carried out.

  • You will receive the letter from our service provider at least 2 weeks in advance giving notice of the test date.

  • You can change the date by calling our contractor Mears on 01698 486600.

  • Remember - this is an important check and so it is important that you allow our contractor Mears access to complete the safety check.

Remember that you should not attempt to do any electrical work yourself. If you wish to make changes to the electrics within your home you must complete an Application for Alterations before any work is carried out within your home.
