Social work charging 2018-19

Explains how much you will required to pay towards the cost of services

Please note that you may not require to pay the full cost of services that you receive. Where your weekly income (after deducting rent, mortgage, council tax and water charges) is £204 per week or less (for a single person), or £311 per week (for a couple), we will not make a charge for services. Where your weekly income is above these thresholds, any charge will be limited to 50% of your excess income above the threshold.

Any amount that you are required to pay will be the lesser of either:

  • The actual cost of providing the services; or
  • Your ability to pay, calculated by an affordability assessment.

Home support service users will already have received a financial assessment. If you are not a home support service user, we will offer you a financial assessment in order to maximise your income.

You can find out more by contacting your social work locality office.
