Gartcosh:Glenboig Community Growth Area

Strategic Development Framework (SDF)

Image of some housing

We have developed a framework to guide development in the area. This will create up to 3,000 new houses and provide a variety of community facilities.

The pdf icon Strategic Development Framework [3Mb] was approved by our Planning and Transportation Committee on 16 April 2014.

Together the SDF and the pdf icon Concept Statement [894kb] will represent formal guidance to developers and design professionals.

They will form the basis for assessing Masterplan and planning applications in the area.

Transportation Infrastructure

As part of this process developers will be required to contribute towards improvements to the road network to ensure it works effectively and the CGA can be fully delivered. Issues relating to this were initially taken to Committee on 21 January 2015 and additional information is provided in a pdf icon background paper [114kb]. This was built upon through a Transport Assessment: Update and a report setting out our policy to ensure the delivery of Strategic Transportation Mitigation Measures.

Seven Lochs Project

Within the CGA, we are working in partnership to develop the Seven Lochs Wetland Park. This is an exciting new project to create Scotland's largest urban nature park. The planning and design of new housing in the area will aim to integrate with the creation of the proposed Wetland Park.

The consultation

The draft SDF was approved by our Planning and Transportation Committee and we held a consultation to hear your views on it. This enabled us to see what changes should be made to the consultation draft document.

As part of this process we assessed responses from both pdf icon agencies, interested parties [261kb] and pdf icon general public [202kb]

During the consultation we held pdf icon public exhibitions [1Mb] that enabled you to pop-in and get more pdf icon information on the CGA [4Mb].

Environmental Report

We produced an pdf icon Environmental Report [550kb] to accompany the draft SDF and also undertook a consultation on this document.

Where did the CGA come from?

The Glasgow and Clyde Valley Structure Plan identified Gartcosh/Glenboig as one of a number of a planned Community Growth Areas. These were designated to meet a significant proportion of demand for new housing development. The North Lanarkshire Local Plan then confirmed the boundaries of the area.
