First designated in 1979 and reviewed in October 2011

Coatbridge has a historic core centred around the Monkland Canal and the original residential expansion to the east and later to the west. There are listed buildings including churches, public buildings and structures such as bridges and war memorials.  Defining characteristics are the buff and red sandstone buildings and many significant public buildings.

Our pdf icon Blairhill and Dunbeth Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plan [3Mb] provides a detailed appraisal of the buildings and spaces which contribute to the unique character of the conservation area. The plan is set out to preserve and enhance the conservation area and guide development proposals. We have also produced more general conservation area guidance within pdf icon SPG 31 [707kb].
