Motherwell: Hamilton Road Conservation Area

First designated in 1993 and reviewed in October 2011

Motherwell old town hall

Hamilton Road conservation area contains a number of listed buildings and fine villas which reflect the town's past in steel making. Little remains of the pre-industrial Motherwell with the exception of the weaver's cottage at the corner of Hamilton Road and Avon Street. Most buildings are Victorian or Edwardian with some later 20th century examples.

Our pdf icon Hamilton Road Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plan [3Mb]  provides a detailed appraisal of the buildings and spaces which contribute to the unique character of the conservation area.  The plan is set out to preserve and enhance the conservation area and guide development proposals.  We have also produced more general conservation area guidance within pdf icon SPG 31 [707kb].
