The procurement process

Frequently asked questions

What type of things do we purchase?

The range of goods and services required across all of our service areas is vast. Examples include: vehicles, stationery, office equipment, cleaning materials, books, furniture, window cleaning, catering, foodstuffs, pest control services, IT hardware and software, civil engineering, construction, social work services and  consultancy. Details of our previous and current contracting activity can be found under our 'Buyer Profile' on the Public Contracts Scotland website.

What is the procurement process?

Where the Public Contracts (Scotland) Regulations apply, we conduct our procurement using one of two tender processes:

  • Open: any organisation can express an interest and request tender documents.
  • Restricted: a two-stage process where any organisation can express their interest. They then go through a pre-qualification assessment. Once these assessments (usually referred to as PQQs) are complete, only the most suitable applicants are invited to tender.

All of our procurements are discharged in accordance with our General Contract Standing Orders.
