Tell us you are starting work

You must tell us when work starts

Tell us by sending the form provided at eBuildingStandards.scot or by using our online form.

It is important you tell us seven days before work starts and again at different stages advised in your Construction Compliance and Notification Plan (pdf icon CCNP [220kb]).

Please note; if you don't tell us when work is starting, or at key stages of construction, it may result in a disruptive survey being undertaken and a delay in issuing the completion certificate acceptance at completion of the project.

You must carry out your building work in accordance with the building warrant.  If you intend to make any changes to the design covered by the building warrant, you must apply for an amendment to building warrant. You cannot carry out the changes until we have granted the amendment.

When work is finished

Your building warrant is valid for three years from the warrant approval date.

You are breaking the law and may be fined if you occupy or use a new building, or new extension, or a converted building prior to a completion certificate being accepted by us

If you need more time to complete your project, please discuss this with us before your building warrant expires.  A request to extend the period of validity of the warrant will be considered.  There is an additional fee for this service.

When work is complete, you must be satisfied that it meets the building regulations. Sign and submit your completion certificate to us, to allow us to make checks or inspections. Forms can be found at eBuildingStandards.scot.

If electrical work has been carried out you will be required to submit an electrical certificate. It is recommended that you use an Approved Certifier. A register of Approved Certifiers is kept by the Scottish Government Building Standards Division. Where an Approved Certifier is not used for the electrical installation, you must demonstrate compliance of the electrical work. For information on how to do this, please contact us.
