As part of the council's £150m 'Building for the Future' programme of new-build housing, 18 properties were purchased from David Wilson Homes in the first phase of new housing at Ravenscraig in Motherwell.

Site: Ravenscraig
Development Name: Lindsay Drive
Number of Units: 18 Mainstream
Cost: £2.1 million
Start Date: January 2010
Completion Date: December 2010

The properties, part of the first phase of new housing within the Ravenscraig development were purchased by the council between November 2010 and February 2011. The houses are all semi-detached and include 14 x 2 bedrooms and 4 x 3 bedroom properties.

The council invested £2.1m to purchase the properties and received a contribution of £0.45m from the Scottish Government.

The council purchased the properties to help meet the need for good quality affordable housing in the area while at the same time supporting the regeneration of the Ravenscraig site, which is of strategic importance to the council. It also assisted the wider economy in North Lanarkshire, during a period which has been affected by the down-turn in the private house construction market.
