How to Apply

As the council has no very sheltered housing of its own we have developed nominations agreements with our partner housing associations which enables the council to nominate applicants from the council's housing waiting lists for a proportion of the very sheltered vacancies.

For some very sheltered developments the council provides nominations for all vacancies which arise within the development. For others the council provides nominations for half of all vacancies.

It is therefore important that if you wish to be considered for a very sheltered housing development where the council provides nominations for half of all vacancies that you complete an application for housing with the very sheltered housing provider. This will improve your potential of being considered for housing within this development as it ensures that you are considered by both the council and the housing association for any vacancies that arise within the development. The table above provides details of the very sheltered housing nominations arrangements in place with the housing providers.

The process of applying for very sheltered housing is the same as sheltered housing, in that you need to complete a housing application form and we will visit you to complete a sheltered housing assessment to ensure you are on the waiting list for specialist housing. However, as very sheltered housing provides enhanced levels of support to sheltered housing and other services such as a meals service it is important we identify applicants who need and would benefit specifically from these services and support. A further assessment is therefore carried out by the locality social work team in order to prioritise applicants who have applied for very sheltered housing.
