Small Business and Self-Employed Support Scheme

The purpose of the Small Business and Self-Employed Support Scheme is to help micro and small businesses (with fewer than 49 employees) to grow by creating or safeguarding jobs and improving the viability of the business.

The scheme can contribute towards project-related costs associated with capital expenditure, infrastructure improvements, training, consultancy, and attending trade shows and exhibitions. It is not geared towards addressing working capital requirements.

The business must have been actively trading for at least 3 months but less than 12 months at the time of application.

This grant scheme has a tiered funding structure with grants of up to £1,000 and up to £3,000 available.

  • For businesses with more than one full-time employee, the scheme will provide 100% grant support up to £3,000.
  • For self-employed individuals with no employees, it is anticipated that a maximum one-off grant will be made available up to £1,000.

Projects that have already started and purchases that have already been paid for (prior to a decision on the application) are ineligible. The grant must be claimed within 6 months of the award date, and only after the project has been completed and all suppliers have received payment in full.
