Ideally situated between Glasgow and Edinburgh, and with excellent transport links to the Highlands, Lanarkshire offers a wide variety of natural, rural and built environments for filming.
North Lanarkshire has hosted a number of film and television productions over the years, including Vigil, Guilt, Two Doors Down, Karen Pirrie, Scot Squad and Shetland. On the big screen, North Lanarkshire has featured in The Outlaw King, The Batman, Tetris, The Last Bus and the much-loved 1980s hit, Gregory’s Girl.
North Lanarkshire is also home to the hit television series Outlander, which has its dedicated studios in Cumbernauld.
Nightsky Studios opened in Coatbridge in 2023 offering 32,000 sq ft of space, with two sound-treated stages, one workshop/build space, and ancillary spaces including green rooms, offices, and storage rooms.
