Renew your marriage/civil partnership vows

You can renew your vows with a civil ceremony, which can be arranged through one of our registration offices.

What happens at a ceremony?

It is up to you to decide but it usually includes:

  • a welcome and introduction
  • you will renew your vows
  • you can exchange rings
  • you can invite special guests
  • you can include readings, poems and so on
  • you will sign a certificate to say you have renewed your vows

The ceremony will last between 15 and 20 minutes. This will depend on what you have chosen to include in the ceremony.

The ceremony has no legal status. It is simply a special occasion to renew your vows in front of family and friends.

Where can the ceremony take place?

You can have a ceremony in any of our registration offices or in another place we have approved for ceremonies.

This is a civil ceremony.  If you want a religious ceremony you will need to contact a church.

How much does it cost?

You must pay for your ceremony when you book it. We are unable to refund this fee. The cost of the ceremony depends on the day, time and venue.

You will need to show us your marriage/civil partnership certificate before you can book the ceremony.
