By using all of your recycle bins you should find that you have very little waste left to place in your general waste bin.
The waste that cannot be recycled should be placed into your general waste bin. Your bin will be serviced on a three-weekly cycle.
Each individual property is entitled to present one general waste bin for collection on the relevant collection day.
Where possible, please use your recycling bins to their full potential. This will reduce the impact that your waste has on the environment as well as avoiding expensive landfill tax charges.
Materials that should be placed into your general waste bin include:
- polystyrene and polythene
- carrier bags
- tissues, napkins and kitchen towels
- nappies, cat litter, animal faeces and bedding
- soiled fast food containers and pizza boxes
- oil or fat from food preparation or cooking
- cigarette ends
- broken crockery or glasses
- cotton wool and buds
- contents of your vacuum cleaner
- crisp and sweet wrappers*
*Most wrappers are in a metallised form of plastic wrapper which can't be recycled, so need to go in your general waste bin. There's an easy test to check if you're not sure. Give the wrapper a scrunch in your hand. If it stays scrunched, it is foil and can be recycled in your green-lidded blue bin. If it springs back, it is metallised plastic and can't be recycled.
