Winter heating payment

What is it?

Some people in Scotland will get a one off payment during winter called the Winter Heating Payment. The Winter Heating Payment will be paid from December 2024 and will be £58.75.

 

Am I eligible? 

You will get  the Winter Heating Payment automatically if you get one of the following qualifying benefits and meet the relevant criteria.

 

Who pays this?

It is paid my Social Security Scotland.

 

How do I apply?

It should be paid automatically if you are eligible. You should tell Social Security Scotland, if you think you did not get Winter Heating Payment when you should have. 

You can do this by filling out a form to request the Winter Heating Payment. You can call Social Security Scotland for free on 0800 182 2222 and ask them to send you a Winter Heating Payment request form or you can download a Winter Heating Payment request form, complete it and send it to Social Security Scotland.

Is it National Insurance based?

No.

Is it means-tested?

Yes - you must receive a qualifying benefit.

Any effect on other benefits?

No.

Is it taxable?

No.

Are there any dependant's additions?

No.

Is it payable in the European Union?

No. There is a UK/Northern Ireland residence criteria.

Can I challenge the decision?

You can challenge a decision about a winter fuel payment if you are unhappy with it.
