Challenge Poverty Week - 7 - 13 October 2024

Challenge Poverty Week runs from Monday 7 to Sunday 13 October 2024. 

Throughout the week, we will share information and advice about the support available to help families struggling with income or money worries. 

A series of free events has been scheduled in local communities, which we'll host with our partners and voluntary organisations. All events are drop-in apart from Wednesday 9 October when booking is required.

Monday 7 October

Airdrie: Chapelside Community Centre, Waddell Street, ML6 6JU 

  • 9.30am to 11am:  Womens' Group who are using cookery to gain a numeracy SQA and Multiply will deliver a session on using on-line tools to stay on budget.
  • 6pm to 8pm: Hosted by NLC, this event will help to improve your number skills in a fun, supportive setting through cooking activities

Tuesday 8 October

Bellshill: YMCA, 294 Main Street, ML4 1AB 

  • 9.30am to 11am:  Multiply will provide a session on reducing costs and savvy shopping

Wednesday 9 October

Coatbridge: Summerlee Museum, Heritage Way, ML5 1QD 

Uddingston: Tannochside Miners Welfare Club, 438 Old Edinburgh Road, G716PJ 

  • 12.30pm to 3.30pm: Hosted by North Lanarkshire Advice Network, this event highlights the support available from various advice agencies including carer’s organisations, welfare rights, Citizens Advice. Also offers an opportunity for one to one advice around challenging benefit decisions.  

Shotts: Healthy Living centre, 7 Kirk Road, ML7 5ET 

Thursday 10 October

Motherwell: Maranatha Centre, Glencairn Street, ML1 1TT

  • 10.30am to 2.30pm: Drop in and improve your wellbeing. We have lots on offer from jewellery making to taster exercise classes, massages, beauty treatments, haircuts, cooking sessions and more… 

Friday 11 October

Bellshill: Joe McKay Centre, Liberty Road ML4 2EU

  • 10am to 12pm: Multiply will provide a session on reducing costs and savvy shopping

Cumbernauld: Antonine Shopping Centre, Tryst Road, G67 1JW

  • 11am to 3pm: Over 30 council, partner and voluntary agencies will be available throughout the centre to offer advice around benefits and money, energy, housing, health and wellbeing, communities, learning and families, skills development opportunities and lots more.
