Unfortunately, due to the type of work that is being done, there will be some disruption.
Every effort will be made to reduce it as much as possible.

- telephone: 01236 768174
If you have any general questions about the project please contact us.
The work will be done in phases with the earlier work focusing on the section closest to Hamilton Road.
As the work progresses things will change, but this is how you may be affected in the early stages.
Traffic and pedestrian management
Restrictions will be in place during the work so that it can be carried out safely.
- vehicular traffic will be affected as a three-way traffic contraflow system in operation, with temporary traffic lights being put in place.
- West Hamilton Street will be closed to pedestrians, and you will need to use Brandon Parade as an alternative route.
Signs have been put in place on site by the contractor advising of the work and what you will need to do.
Public transport
The bus stops will be temporarily closed and unavailable to use at various times during the work, please use the next available stop that is appropriate for your journey
- westbound bus stop from 22 July.
- eastbound bus stop, approximately 4 weeks later.
We will keep you updated as things change, and the focus moves to the ASDA end of road.
Access
- access to residential properties, businesses and service yards will always be maintained during the work.
- detail on any temporary changes or restrictions to normal access arrangements will be provided by the contractor in advance .
Consultation flyer
Download the consultation flyer that we provided to residents and businesses to advise them of the work taking place.
This work is the first part of a planned route from Motherwell Rail Station to Motherwell Civic Centre.
We have designs and depending on funding, we hope to appoint a contractor to carry out work on the route between Asda and Motherwell Civic Centre this year.
This will involve:
- providing shared use paths
- improvements to pedestrian and cyclist crossings
- changes to the junction of Watsonville Park, Oakfield Road and Cairns Street
It will link to planned shared-use paths into Ravenscraig from Windmillhill Street and Airbles Road as part of the Motherwell to Ravenscraig City Deal project.

Other work we have done
In November 2021 we did work to widen the path from Merry Street at the Woodcutter pub, past the Aquatec Centre to the pedestrian crossing on Hope Street.
In 2020 we completed walking and cycling route improvements in Strathclyde Park and put up new signs between Strathclyde Park and Motherwell Rail Station.
What else are we doing in the area?
We’re working in partnership with Ravenscraig Limited to create new routes for cycling, walking and wheeling into and through Ravenscraig. The new routes will make it easier to get to neighbouring communities and improve links to facilities in Ravenscraig.
