Muir Street
The work on Muir Street is complete.
Work being done soon for two weeks
We are doing work from Monday 21 October to Monday 04 November and this is how you might be affected during this period.
Access road to Motherwell Rail Station
The access road to the Rail Station (off Hamilton Road roundabout) that serves the taxi rank and drop-off facility will be closed from 6.00am on 21 October for 14 days to allow work to be carried out safely.
During the closure, the taxi rank will relocate to High Road, Motherwell.
If you are looking to drop-off at the station, we recommend you use Hope Street car park.
Disabled parking will also not be available with the closest bays being in Hope Street car park.
Advanced signing will be in place, along with posters showing where the taxi rank is during the closure.
Every effort will be made to minimise disruption to users of the rail station while the work is done.
Muir Street closure (including bus stop)
Muir Street will also be closed for a short period from 12.00am on Saturday 26th October to to 12.00am on Monday 28 October to allow for resurfacing work of the carriageway and bus layby to be carried out safely.
While Muir Street is closed, we recommend you use the next available stop for your journey.
During the time Muir Street is closed, there will be a diversion in place for traffic.
Temporary road closure diversion route.
Improving bus and taxi facilities
We have improved the bus and taxi facilities at Muir Street with City Deal funding. New and wider footways, new street furniture and trees have also been provided.
We appointed Balfour Beatty to carry out the work which was completed in June 2023.
The work was coordinated with what they were also doing at Motherwell Rail Station to reduce disruption to local businesses and residents.
By working with ScotRail as they have upgraded Motherwell Rail Station, we have ensured the projects complement each other and have made the most of the available funding.
Bus stop
Work to create a larger bus stop on Muir Street is complete and the bus stop has reopened. The bus stop now has space for four buses.
The bus shelter has been refurbished and reinstalled. Real Time Passenger Information signs will also be installed soon.
Taxi rank
The new taxi rank on the new access road to Motherwell Rail Station, from the roundabout at Hamilton Road/West Hamilton Street is now open.
The new access road will join Muir Street at the station forecourt and will also have a drop-off/pick up area and disabled parking bays to the front of the station.
New pedestrian routes to the taxi rank have also been built from Hamilton Road, Muir Street and from the train station forecourt.
