East Airdrie Link Road - Stage 3

We are engaging with the community

We have been working to develop the route of the new road.

We want you to look at our new proposals and tell us what you think.

Please give us your feedback before 10 January 2025. Details on how to participate can be found below.

We are engaging with the community to help our consultant design the new road.

Since we showed you the initial route of the preferred option that we proposed, we have moved on to Stage 3.

Stage 3 has let us look closer at things and we have been working to develop the new road.

We have taken onboard the feedback that you have already given us on the route of the road and we think we have a proposal that works better.

We now want to give you an update on what we have done and where we are.

The things we are proposing to do differently mean:

  • there is less impact on the environment
  • the new road connects better with the current local roads, meaning more local people will benefit from it.

It's important that we hear what you think about our proposals before we take things further and do more design work.

Community engagement

This online event is to allow you to tell us what you think about our new proposals.

It is just one opportunity that you will have to let us know your views on the design, and there will be more.

Important dates

  • 18 November 2024 - community engagement opens
  • 10 January 2025 - community engagement closes
  • January/February 2025 - we will give an update on what you have told us.

View the proposal and give us feedback

You can see what we are planning to do and find out more about what we are proposing, by viewing our StoryMap.

There is an online feedback form that will let you tell us what you think about the proposals.

We would really appreciate it if you could take the time to tell us what you think. Your feedback will help us to develop the design ahead of the next stage of the project.

Following the community engagement period, we will review all feedback and provide an update on what you have told us.

Please ensure you provide your feedback by 10 January to help us develop the proposal further.

More about Stage 3 and our consultant

We have now moved to Stage 3 of the project and chosen consultants, AtkinsRealis, to undertake the next phase of design and prepare a planning application.

As part of this work, the consultants will review the proposed line of the route of the preferred option.

During this stage, there will be opportunities for consultation and engagement with key groups including landowners and residents.

This will let us have more detailed discussions with those who have an interest in the project especially as the design is developed and we better understand the exact route of the link road.

As part of the design process, the consultants will also be carrying out surveys that will be needed to develop the design and to inform the planning application, such as:

  • environmental surveys
  • ecological surveys
  • additional ground investigation work

Further information and correspondence will be issued to all affected landowners.

Other information

The Outline Business Case (OBC) was approved at Glasgow City Region Cabinet on 6 August 2024.

Approval of the OBC has secured the next portion of funding to let us move to Full Business Case (FBC) and allow for the link road to be constructed. We expect to submit the FBC in summer 2027.

The road should be finished during 2030, but we will continue to review this and change dates as the project moves forward, if needed.
